Fleuve Gambie : le niveau de l’eau monte à Kédougou, mais reste sous la cote d’alerte
The level of the Gambia River is showing contrasting trends at the various hydrological stations monitored by the Tambacounda/Kédougou Water Resources Brigade. According to the daily hydrological bulletin of September 9, 2026, a significant rise was recorded at the Kédougou station, while the overall trend remains downward at several other measurement points.
In Kédougou, the water level recorded at 8:00 AM was 4.28 meters, compared to 3.51 meters the previous day, representing a rise of 77 centimeters in 24 hours. Despite this increase, the level remains 2.72 meters below the alert threshold of 7 meters. However, over the past year, the station has recorded a decrease of 1.82 meters compared to the level recorded on September 9, 2025.
The situation is different in Mako, where the water level is at 3.25 meters, compared to 3.45 meters the previous day, a drop of 20 centimeters. With the alert level set at 6 meters, the difference remains at 2.75 meters.
At Simenti, the water level reached 5.97 meters, a decrease of 33 centimeters compared to the previous day. It remains 7.03 meters below the alert level, set at 13 meters. The year-on-year comparison shows a decrease of 2.82 meters.
The downward trend also continues in Gouloumbou, with a water level of 6.62 meters, compared to 6.78 meters the previous day, representing a decrease of 16 centimeters. The level remains 5.38 meters below the alert threshold of 12 meters.
In Diaguiri, the measured level is 2.05 meters, down 19 centimeters over 24 hours. It is 3.95 meters below the alert level, set at 6 meters.
In the tributaries, the Thiokoye station, conversely, recorded a rise of 29 centimeters, with the level reaching 2.21 meters compared to 1.92 meters the previous day. At Niokolokoba, the water level stood at 3.56 meters, a decrease of 27 centimeters over 24 hours.
The situation is still far from the alert thresholds.
Overall, the recorded levels remain below the various alert thresholds. However, the rise recorded in Kédougou is the main highlight of this bulletin, with an increase of 77 centimeters in a single day.
On an interannual basis, the levels observed on September 9, 2026 also remain lower than those recorded on the same date in 2025 in the stations for which a comparison is provided by the bulletin.
Hydrological monitoring services thus maintain regular surveillance of the evolution of the Gambia River and its main tributaries.
