Fleuve Gambie : Le niveau des eaux en baisse à Kédougou, vigilance maintenue à Simenti et Gouloumbou
The hydrological situation of the Gambia River and its main tributaries remains generally under control in the Kédougou region. However, the daily hydrological bulletin of August 28, 2026, based on readings taken at 8:00 a.m., reports contrasting patterns depending on the station.
In Kédougou, the water level is at 3.63 m, compared to 4.21 m the previous day, representing a drop of 58 cm in 24 hours. With the alert level set at 7 m, the difference remains significant at 3.37 m below the alert threshold. The situation therefore remains under control, despite the recorded decrease.
At Mako, the water level also continues to recede. It has dropped from 3.79 m to 3.56 m, a decrease of 23 cm. With the alert level at 6 m, the difference is 2.44 m.
In contrast, the trend is upward in Simenti, where the level reached 6.13 m, compared to 5.85 m the previous day, representing a rise of 28 cm. Despite this increase, the level remains 6.87 m below the alert threshold of 13 m.

A general decrease compared to 2025
Comparison with the same date last year shows an overall lower hydrological situation. In Kédougou, the level recorded on August 28, 2025 was 4.93 m, compared to 3.63 m this year, representing an interannual decrease of 1.30 m.
In Diaguiri, the level is 2.14 m, down 46 cm in 24 hours and 2.52 m compared to August 28, 2025. In Thiokoye, the level reaches 2.91 m, compared to 3.97 m the day before, while Niokolokoba shows 1.74 m, a slight increase of 4 cm.
The bulletin also notes a sharp year-on-year decrease in Niokolokoba, where the level fell from 6.97 m on August 28, 2025 to 1.74 m this year, a decrease of 5.23 m.
Green alert at several stations
Overall, the monitored stations show a situation that does not require any particular vigilance, with green alerts issued at several measurement points. The bulletin nevertheless calls for continued attention to be paid to changes in water levels, particularly in areas where an upward trend is observed.
At Diarha Pont, the day's data had not yet arrived at the time the bulletin was prepared. The level recorded the previous day was 1.82 m.
This data, from the water resources brigade of Tambacounda/Kédougou, allows us to monitor the evolution of the Gambia River and its tributaries daily in order to anticipate any risks related to variations in water levels.
