Fleuve Gambie : les eaux montent à plusieurs stations, la vigilance orange maintenue.
Water levels continue to rise at several stations in the Gambia River basin. While the situation remains below alert levels, hydrological services are calling for increased vigilance.
The hydrological situation of the Gambia River remains under surveillance in the Kédougou region. According to the daily hydrological bulletin of October 7, 2026, several stations are recording a significant rise in water levels, while the orange alert remains in effect.
In Diaguiri, the water level reached 5.40 meters at 8 a.m., compared to 5.14 meters the previous day, representing a rise of 26 centimeters in 24 hours. However, the level remains 60 centimeters below the alert threshold of 6 meters.
The rise is also significant at Simenti, where the level increased from 10.08 to 10.63 meters, an additional 55 centimeters in 24 hours. Despite this increase, the station remains 2.37 meters below its alert level, set at 13 meters.
At Mako, the water level reached 5.15 meters, compared to 4.78 meters the previous day, representing a rise of 37 centimeters. The station is now 85 centimeters below its alert level of 6 meters.
Kédougou is declining, but remains under vigilance
At the Kédougou station, a slight decrease in water levels has been observed. The level has fallen from 6.57 to 6.20 meters, a drop of 37 centimeters in 24 hours. Despite this positive development, the level remains high, only 80 centimeters below the alert threshold of 7 meters.
Most importantly, the comparison with the same date in 2025 reveals a significant difference: the level is 2.34 meters higher than that recorded on October 7, 2025. The station therefore remains under orange alert.
Significant variations in the tributaries
The tributaries are also experiencing contrasting trends. At Thiokoye, the water level has fallen by 27 centimeters to 6.41 meters. However, the difference over the past year is dramatic: the water level is 3.97 meters higher than that recorded on October 7, 2025.
At Niokolokoba, the level is rising slightly to reach 7.10 meters, while at Diarha Pont, the rise is much more significant: 51 centimeters in 24 hours, bringing the water level to 4.63 meters.
A situation to monitor closely
The summary table confirms an overall upward trend at several stations: Mako (+37 cm), Simenti (+55 cm), Gouloumbou (+7 cm), Diaguiri (+26 cm), Niokolokoba (+10 cm) and Diarha Pont (+51 cm). Kédougou and Thiokoye, on the other hand, recorded respective decreases of 37 and 27 centimeters.
Even though none of the stations shown have yet reached their alert level, the proximity of the observed levels to certain thresholds, combined with the strong variations recorded in 24 hours, justifies maintaining vigilance.
Local residents are therefore urged to remain particularly attentive to changes in watercourses and to follow the instructions of the relevant authorities.
