Fleuve Gambie : les niveaux d’eau en baisse à Kédougou, sauf à Mako et Niokolokoba
The water level continues to recede at several stations in the Gambia River basin. Readings taken this Monday, September 7, 2026, at 8:00 AM indicate a significant drop in water levels, particularly at Kédougou, Thiokoye, and Diaguiri. Two stations, however, are recording a slight rise.
The hydrological situation in the Gambia River basin is showing mixed results. According to the daily hydrological bulletin from the Tambacounda/Kédougou Water Resources Brigade, several monitored stations are showing a decrease in water levels compared to the previous day's readings.
In Kédougou, the water level measured at 8:00 AM was 3.92 meters, compared to 5.10 meters the previous day, representing a significant decrease of 1.18 meters in 24 hours. Despite this change, the level remains 3.08 meters below the alert threshold of 7 meters.
The drop is even more pronounced at Thiokoye, where the water level fell from 3.67 to 2.10 meters, a decrease of 1.57 meters in a single day. The Diaguiri station also experienced a decline of 56 centimeters, with the water level dropping from 2.80 to 2.24 meters.
At Simenti, the water level has receded by 36 centimeters, from 5.93 to 5.57 meters. At Gouloumbou, it has dropped by 40 centimeters, from 7.57 to 7.17 meters. However, both stations remain several meters below their respective alert levels, set at 13 and 12 meters.
Two stations showing a slight increase
However, the hydrological picture shows an opposite trend in Mako and Niokolokoba.
At Mako, the water level rose from 3.68 to 3.95 meters, an increase of 27 centimeters in 24 hours. At Niokolokoba, the rise was more moderate, with an increase of 12 centimeters, bringing the water level from 3.77 to 3.89 meters.
On an interannual basis, the levels recorded this year are generally lower than those observed at the same time in 2025. In Kédougou, the decrease reaches 1.93 meters compared to the reference level indicated for 2025. It is 3.02 meters in Thiokoye and 2.56 meters in Niokolokoba.
Overall, the data from the September 7, 2026 bulletin reflect a predominantly downward trend at the monitored stations, with some localized differences at Mako and Niokolo-Koba. Daily monitoring remains essential to anticipate any changes in river levels within the Gambia River basin.
