Land issues were at the heart of the Ndioum Municipal Council session. Faced with the controversy surrounding the occupation of certain lands located on the outskirts of the municipality, the mayor, Dr. Cheikh Oumar Anne, provided details on the situation and expressed his commitment to finding a solution.

The mayor was particularly keen to dispel any confusion regarding the town hall's responsibility in these occupations. According to him, contrary to some circulating reports, this is in no way a case of "land grabbing" by the municipality. The situation is rather linked to occupations carried out by private individuals on land located on the town's borders.

Dr. Cheikh Oumar Anne called for this issue to be treated with caution, particularly because of the location of some of the areas concerned, on the periphery and borders with other territorial communities.

To put an end to these illegal occupations, the mayor indicated that he had contacted the General Directorate for Land Use Monitoring and Control (DGSCOS). The objective is to enable the relevant services to remind residents of the applicable land use regulations and to prevent potential land disputes.

"Land use is regulated and those who do otherwise risk sanctions," warned the mayor, thus inviting the population to respect legal procedures.

In parallel, the municipality intends to provide a sustainable solution to the land needs of the population. As part of this, a land subdivision process is underway to allow legal access to plots. The project initially covers 2,000 plots, with the possibility of eventually reaching 3,000.

For the mayor of Ndioum, this approach should make it possible to respond to the growing demand for land, while putting an end to anarchic occupations and preserving relations between local authorities.
