A tragedy occurred off the fishing pier of Rufisque. The lifeless body of a fisherman was discovered this Thursday, August 20, 2026, at around 9 a.m.
Alerted, the central police station in Rufisque went to the scene. The victim was identified as BK, a fisherman who, during his lifetime, resided in Grand Mbao.
According to eyewitness accounts, the tragedy occurred the previous day, Wednesday, August 19, around 7:00 PM. While aboard his pirogue, off the fishing pier in Rufisque, BK was reportedly struck by lightning. Seated at the stern of the boat, he suddenly fell into the water, according to Seneweb sources.
His companions reportedly began searching for him immediately, but their efforts were unsuccessful that evening. His body was finally discovered on the morning of Thursday, August 20, near the fishing pier in Rufisque.
The initial examination at the scene revealed no signs of a struggle or apparent violence on the body. Following these observations, firefighters transported the body to the morgue at the Idrissa-Pouye General Hospital in Grand-Yoff, in accordance with a requisition, for an autopsy to determine the precise circumstances of the death.
