Foundiougne : 123 migrants clandestins interceptés au large de Bassoul, un présumé passeur arrêté
A nighttime operation conducted jointly by the Foundiougne territorial gendarmerie and elements of the Gandoul Marine Protected Area resulted in the interception of 123 undocumented migrants off the coast of Bassoul. A suspected smuggler was also apprehended.
Another interception of undocumented migrants on the Senegalese coast. Off the coast of Bassoul, in the department of Foundiougne, 123 individuals attempting irregular migration were apprehended following a night patrol conducted by security forces.
The operation was conducted by members of the Foundiougne territorial gendarmerie brigade, in collaboration with agents from the Gandoul Marine Protected Area. The vigilance of the teams deployed in the area enabled them to locate and intercept the boat carrying the migrants.
During the operation, an individual described as a suspected smuggler was also arrested. The 123 migrants were taken to the Foundiougne territorial gendarmerie brigade, where they are currently being held in custody for questioning.
The investigations should shed light on the circumstances of this attempted irregular migration, as well as on the alleged role of the individual arrested.
This operation illustrates the mobilization of security forces and marine environment protection actors in monitoring the waters of the Petite-Côte and combating clandestine departures by sea.
