Gamou of Medina Baye: "Aliou Peulh" steals an iPhone 17 and resells it for 100,000 CFA francs

An 18-year-old metalworker, A. FAYE, known by the nickname "Aliou Peulh", was arrested and taken into custody for a mobile phone theft committed in the middle of the night of the Gamou of Medina Baye, on the night of Tuesday 25 to Wednesday 26 August 2026.

According to the victim, Mr. Seck, a 20-year-old baker residing in Medina Mbamba, the incident occurred around 4:00 AM, as he was returning from Medina Baye after the night of Gamou. On his way, he stopped in front of a shop in the Passoire neighborhood to buy milk.

It was at this moment that he noticed an individual walking behind him. This man snatched his mobile phone, a white iPhone 17, before disappearing into the crowd.

Mr. SECK claims to have formally identified his thief: it is said to be A. FAYE, alias "Aliou Peulh".

It wasn't until the following day, Wednesday, August 26, 2026, around 6:00 PM, that the victim went to the Jakarta motorcycle stop to find the suspect. She indeed located him there, where he was apprehended before being taken to the Kaolack police station around 8:00 PM for theft committed the previous night.

The confession of the accused

After being briefly questioned by investigators, A. FAYE, a resident of Ndorong, admitted to the charges against him.

He explained that he had resold the stolen phone for 100,000 CFA francs to an individual nicknamed "Serère," whom he claims to have met after the theft in Medina Baye, according to Seneweb sources. The accused, however, provided no further details to identify this buyer.

After being informed of his rights to a defense, A. FAYE was taken into custody for theft committed at night. The investigation is ongoing, particularly to locate the buyer of the stolen phone.
