The Saint-Louis gendarmerie company's research brigade has dismantled a cattle rustling ring operating in Gandiol. Four people, including a butcher suspected of acting as a receiver of stolen goods, were arrested and brought before the Saint-Louis public prosecutor's office.

For about two years, residents of the villages surrounding the municipality of Gandiol have seen their livestock disappear. According to information gathered, the losses are estimated at more than fifty goats. The victims have filed numerous complaints and reports with various authorities, but these efforts have been fruitless.

Having received no results, the residents finally filed a complaint with the commander of the Saint-Louis gendarmerie company's research brigade. The gendarmes, in plain clothes, immediately entered the area.

Technical investigations led to the initial arrest of three individuals: P. Diop, E. Ndiaye, and M. Boye. They confessed to the charges against them. During their interrogations, they also identified their receiver of stolen goods, a butcher nicknamed "Billy," residing in the Pikine neighborhood of Saint-Louis.

The arrest of the fence and the discovery of a clandestine slaughterhouse

The police quickly arrested Billy. A search of his home revealed that he had set up an illegal slaughterhouse, where he received and slaughtered stolen animals. All of his equipment, as well as the means of transport used to commit the thefts, were seized by investigators.

They were brought before the prosecutor and placed in pre-trial detention.

With the arrest of the receiver of stolen goods, the entire gang has now been dismantled. The four suspects were brought before the Saint-Louis prosecutor's office, which remanded them in custody. They will face charges of criminal conspiracy and cattle rustling, committed as a group, at night, and using a vehicle.
