Grand Transfert d’Eau : Le ministère dément l’abandon du programme et annonce des travaux au lac de Guiers
The Ministry of Water and Sanitation denies reports suggesting that the Grand Water Transfer (GTE) program has been removed from the state's agenda. In a press release published on October 27, 2026, it affirms that the program "is neither canceled nor suspended" and announces the commencement of work to secure Lake Guiers by the end of 2026.
This work will focus in particular on the rehabilitation of the Richard Toll regulating structure and the reinforcement of the lake at the CSS, Pakh and Bontou Bath sites. Funded by the World Bank, it aims to strengthen the lake's storage capacity and secure the water resource.
The department headed by Cheikh Tidiane Dièye clarifies that the budgetary adjustments made within the framework of the 2026 supplementary budget law do not constitute an abandonment of the project. According to the ministry, they correspond to the allocation of funds "at the time when they can actually be committed and disbursed."
The start of the main transfer work is planned for 2027, while efforts to mobilize funding and preparatory procedures continue.
