GRAND YOFF : gracié par le président Diomaye, un multirécidiviste arrêté encore pour vol
Two men were taken into custody on August 31st by detectives from the Grand Yoff district police station for stealing a sheep by breaking and entering. The main suspect, a repeat offender pardoned in 2026 for the Tabaski festival, eventually confessed to the crime when confronted with the evidence gathered by investigators, according to Seneweb sources. His alleged accomplice was also arrested.
It all started with a letter of complaint, dated August 30, 2026. On that day, Mr. EM NDIAYE, known as "Ass," went to the Grand Yoff police station to report, against persons unknown, the theft of his Azawat breed sheep, valued at 100,000 FCFA. According to his statement, the animal had been stolen from his home during the night of August 29-30, 2026.
Upon receiving the complaint, investigators immediately launched an on-site investigation. This led them to the attendant of a parking lot located near the scene of the incident. This witness formally stated that he had seen, that night, a man named O. KAIRE, who had previously lived in the same neighborhood, transporting a sheep on a two-wheeled vehicle.
Based on this information, the police cross-checked details which led to the suspect's location and arrest in the Scat-Urbam neighborhood. During questioning, the man gave his name: O. KAIRE, 43 years old, identifying himself as a plumber and residing in the Pattes d'Oie housing project.
When questioned by investigators, O. KAIRE initially hesitated, giving conflicting statements. But confronted with the detailed testimony of the parking attendant, he finally gave in and admitted to the facts in their entirety.
He explained that around 2:00 a.m., he had climbed the wall of the complainant's property before seizing the animal. To quickly remove it from the premises, he hired a motorcycle taxi, a popular mode of transport for this type of crime due to its discretion and speed. The sheep was then sold for 40,000 FCFA to a merchant located in the Parcelles Assainies district.
The judicial profile of a pardoned repeat offender
The investigation revealed that O. KAIRE was not a first-time offender. He is known to the police and has a particularly extensive prison record. He has served several prison sentences for various offenses: five years, six months, and then one year.
Notably, he had benefited from a presidential pardon granted by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye in the lead-up to the Tabaski 2026 festival. It was therefore only a few months after regaining his freedom that he was arrested again, this time for a cattle theft committed at night, involving climbing and the use of a vehicle.
The investigation then focused on the animal's buyer. He was arrested at his workplace in Parcelles Assainies. During questioning, he gave his name: O. FALL, 32 years old, claiming to be a shopkeeper and residing in Parcelles Assainies, Unit 22.
When questioned, O. Fall admitted to having purchased the animal but denied any knowledge of its fraudulent origin. Investigators found this version implausible, as the dubious conditions and circumstances of the transaction—a sheep sold in the middle of the night at a price far below its actual value—suggested the opposite. He also stated that he had already slaughtered the animal and sold its meat.
At the end of the investigation, the two accused, O. KAIRE, prosecuted for criminal association and cattle theft committed at night with climbing and use of rolling means, and O. FALL for receiving stolen goods, were brought before the prosecutor.
