Grand-Yoff: A repeat offender arrested with counterfeit 5,000 CFA franc notes; his explanation is surprising.

The Grand-Yoff district police station arrested a repeat offender charged with possession and circulation of counterfeit banknotes legal tender in Senegal. The suspect, already known to police for similar offenses, was brought before the prosecutor's office following the investigation.

The case began with a complaint filed by a driver. According to the reported facts, he was hailed around 5:00 a.m. for a ride to Liberté 6. Upon arrival, the customer gave him a 5,000 CFA franc note. The driver gave him the change before discovering, after leaving, that the note was counterfeit.

A few hours later, around noon, the complainant happened to cross paths with the same individual at the exit of a shop located in the Castor district.

Suspecting the customer had used a counterfeit bill again, the driver entered the shop and asked the manager to show him the bill the suspect had just used to buy phone credit. After checking, it turned out that the 5,000 CFA franc note was also counterfeit.

With the help of local residents, the driver apprehended the suspect and took him to the police station. En route, the suspect allegedly attempted to destroy the counterfeit bill he had given to the shopkeeper.

According to information released by the police, the suspect is already known to the security services. He has reportedly been brought before the prosecutor's office twice for similar offenses, notably against a taxi driver and a money transfer point manager.

When questioned briefly, he tried to exonerate himself by claiming that the counterfeit bills came from clients who had consulted him as part of his mystical practices, mentioning maraboutic incantations.

At the end of the procedure, the accused was brought before the public prosecutor to answer for the charges against him.
