Grand-Yoff : Un taximan gazé et dépouillé en pleine course
The race turned into an ambush. On the night of October 16-17, two individuals were arrested by officers from the Grand-Yoff district police station after attacking a taxi driver with a neutralizing gas to steal his phone and his daily earnings.
According to the investigation, it was around 3:00 a.m. when the taxi driver picked up two passengers at the Patte d'Oie housing project, heading towards Arafat. But as they approached their destination, the passenger in the back seat attacked. He sprayed the driver with an irritant from a gas canister.
Blinded, the driver was unable to prevent his alleged attackers from snatching his Samsung S20+ and his daily earnings. The two men then fled towards "Pakbi," an area located in Liberté 6.
Their escape was short-lived. While on patrol, the Grand-Yoff police officers came across the driver in distress. Alerted, they moved in and used the information gathered on site.
The investigation led to the arrest of two suspects, found in possession of the stolen phone. They are Mr. Niass, a 27-year-old driver residing in Parcelles Assainies, unit 13, and Mr. Touré, a 25-year-old carpenter residing in Cité Millionnaire.
Despite their denials, deemed inconsistent by investigators, the two men were formally identified by the victim.
The pair were taken into custody for conspiracy and armed robbery committed at night using a neutralizing gas.
The investigation is ongoing.
