Grève de 72 h du FSDT : Un mot d’ordre timide à Tivaouane
In the Tivaouane department, the 72-hour general strike called by the Trade Union Front for the Defense of Labor (FSDT) for October 21-23, 2026, resulted in moderate participation. According to official figures, the strike rate reached only 29% in the education sector and 21% at the Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh Hospital.
On this first day of mobilization, educational and health activities were not severely disrupted. According to the trend report prepared by the Human Resources Management Office (HRM) of the Education and Training Inspectorate (IEF) of Tivaouane, out of 1,509 registered teachers, only 438 participated in the strike, representing an exact rate of 29.02%.
In detail, the strike was more widespread in preschool (37.5%, or 24 out of 64 teachers) and middle school (37.12%, or 62 out of 167 teachers). In elementary school, which has the largest student population, 352 out of 1,278 teachers walked out, representing a rate of 27.54%. The vast majority of teachers thus chose to ensure the continuity of classes.
In the health sector, Dr. Yoro Diagne, director of the Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh Hospital, indicated that only 21% of staff complied with the strike order, which primarily targeted those who prescribe and deliver healthcare services. Due to the work stoppage in strategic departments such as radiology and the laboratory, which did not provide emergency testing, the hospital recorded an 80% drop in its daily revenue.
For its part, the Massamba Sall health center also saw the order well followed at the level of maternity, emergency and medical consultations, causing a sharp drop in its revenue.
