Guédiawaye : affrontements nocturnes sur le littoral, les maraîchers et artisans dénoncent une tentative d’expulsion forcée
The offensive was as sudden as it was unpredictable that early evening. As twilight cast its dark veil over the coastal strip of Guédiawaye, where the casuarina trees usually offer their benevolent shade to a hardworking community, the silence of the nascent night was brutally shattered. No longer was the muffled murmur of anxiety that pervaded the three thousand market gardeners, livestock farmers, and artisans of the area, but the tumult of a veritable war zone. The administrative truce had been trampled under the impact of a nighttime ambush.
A shadowy squad took advantage of the twilight to descend upon the coastline. Armed thugs, wearing vests as if to buy themselves a veneer of legitimacy, descended upon the scene. Leading this sinister procession was a steel monster: a Caterpillar, surreptitiously dispatched to raze, crush, and bury the fields and the hopes of an entire community before dawn.
But faced with the brute force and surprise of the assault, peasant dignity rose as a bulwark. Refusing to see the fruit of generations of labor reduced to dust, the rightful occupants of the land resisted this brutal demolition with all their might. What followed was a pitched battle of unprecedented violence, where cries of distress mingled with the clash of makeshift weapons. Blood flowed on the sand among the casuarina trees, the final testament to a desperate resistance against dispossession.
In the mouths of the grieving residents, one name keeps recurring like an accusatory refrain: that of the property developer. Mr. Pape Dieng is singled out, without any ambiguity, as the mastermind behind this attempted forced eviction. This aggression is all the more incomprehensible and pernicious given that the institutional timeline still offered a glimmer of hope.
Indeed, the Prefect of the department officially invited all parties to a negotiating table this Monday, with the aim of finding a concerted and peaceful resolution to this painful land dispute. How, then, can such a strong-arm tactic be explained, if not by a clear desire to trample on the authority of the State and preempt human justice?
In the video we are publishing today, faces bear the marks of fury and incomprehension. Voices, choked with emotion but firm in the justice of their cause, denounce this act of banditry from another era.
Turning their gaze towards the top of the state, these fathers and mothers are making an urgent and solemn appeal to the highest authorities in the country.
While the threat of eviction notices was already hanging over the working-class suburbs, the irruption of these private militias at sunset has just crossed the Rubicon.
Will the Republic be able to uphold the need for dialogue against the law of the bulldozer? The casuarina trees await justice.
