Heavy rains struck Dakar, causing a double tragedy in the Parcelles Assainies district. According to Seneweb sources, a woman and her son, approximately four years old, drowned as a result of the flooding.
During a downpour, the wall of a house in Unit 7 collapsed. Two people lost their lives. A neighbor of the deceased, who witnessed the events, explained to police that the force of the rain caused the boundary wall to collapse. Water then rushed into the house, drowning the two victims. According to him, attempts to pull them from the water were unsuccessful.
The police commissioner of Parcelles Assainies and his officers immediately went to the scene. They found two lifeless bodies lying on the terrace. They were identified as A. Ngom, approximately 25 years old, and her son, M. Gningue, approximately 4 years old.
Upon the arrival of the police and firefighters, the high water level made the removal of the bodies difficult. Nevertheless, the police officers waded through the water, carried out the standard procedures, and recovered the remains, which they then handed over to the firefighters.
The bodies were taken to the morgue for autopsies. A climate of sadness and consternation still hangs over the scene. The investigation opened by the Parcelles Assainies district police station is ongoing.
