Floods: The Prime Minister directs aid to victims and announces a crisis management committee

Food, essential supplies, and temporary housing are the priorities set by Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo for flood relief, particularly in Dakar, during the Council of Ministers meeting. "He instructed the relevant ministers to ensure the rapid restoration of decent living conditions and hygiene in the affected areas, especially in Dakar, the provision of food and essential supplies, and the temporary rehousing of those in need," stated the press release from the Council of Ministers on Tuesday, October 13.

This comes after the communication from the Head of State, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, regarding this subject, before prescribing, without delay, a rapid technical audit of the dysfunctions observed in the governance of sanitation systems.

Continuing, Al Aminou Lo "stressed the urgency of putting in place the governance framework of the National Strategy for Integrated Flood Risk Management, inviting the Minister of Water and Sanitation to submit to him, as soon as possible, a draft decree creating a multi-sectoral project group responsible for operationalizing this strategy."

In accordance with the directives of the Head of State, the Prime Minister announced the creation of a committee tasked with proposing a governance plan for crisis management regarding floods.

Finally, he informed the Council that an inter-ministerial meeting dedicated to assessing the food security situation would be held in early November 2026. This assessment would take into account the poor harvest patterns in some areas and crop losses due to flooding in others.

For his part, the Minister of Water and Sanitation gave a report on the updated situation of flood management at the national level and the monitoring of the emergency flood management plan in the Dakar region.
