The Jaxaay district police station arrested A. Camara, a 21-year-old sheet metal worker residing in Jaxaay's Unit 17. He is suspected of abducting a minor and repeatedly raping a 13-year-old girl. Here's a chronological look back at a case that kept investigators busy for days.
The father's complaint
It all started with a complaint filed by Mr. Diop with Commissioner Cheikh Ndiaye against A. Camara for the abduction of his minor daughter, M. Diop.
In his official statement, the father explained that upon returning home from work on the evening of August 5, 2026, he did not find his daughter there. When questioned, his wife stated that she also did not know where the child was. It was only after an investigation in the neighborhood that the family learned that a young man (A. Camara) had come to pick up the girl.
Mr. Diop did not return to the family home until the following morning, August 6. Her father then decided to take her to the police station, where he officially filed a complaint against A. Camara.
The victim's statements
Heard in a statement recorded in the presence of her parents, Mr. Diop, 13 years old, declared that she had been in a relationship with the suspect for more than five months and that she had had sexual relations with him on several occasions.
Regarding the events of August 5th, she stated that when her parents were looking for her, she was with A. Camara in Darou Thioub, in a room he had rented, where they spent the night together. She indicated that she also had sexual relations with him that night.
A manhunt lasting several days
On August 6, A. Camara was the subject of an active police search, initially without success, as the suspect remained at large. It was only during a night patrol that officers from the police station's investigation unit finally apprehended him.
The confession of the accused
When questioned about the charges against him, A. Camara fully admitted to them. He stated that he had been in a romantic relationship with M. Diop for several months and admitted to having had sexual relations with her on numerous occasions, specifying that he was unable to quantify these sexual encounters.
Refusal of gynecological examination
Following a request to a qualified person, the victim was taken to the Youssou Mbergane Hospital in Rufisque to be examined by the hospital's gynecologist. Mr. Diop, however, refused this examination, a refusal that was recorded by investigators and constitutes one of the significant elements of the case, according to Seneweb sources.
At the conclusion of the investigation, A. Camara was brought before Prosecutor Saliou Dicko on charges of abduction of a minor and repeated rape of a 13-year-old girl. The rest of the proceedings are now in the hands of the justice system.
