«Je ne suis pas mauvais» : : il vole deux téléviseurs, les revend à 40 000 FCFA et se défend
MD Seck, 27, a driver for a private individual in Diourbel for the past six years, was sentenced to two years in prison, with six months to be served, by the summary court. L'Observateur, which attended the hearing, reports that he had stolen two televisions from his employer's home.
The incident occurred in July, around 4 a.m., according to the same source. The defendant had scaled the wall of the house before stealing the two devices. Upon waking, his boss discovered they were missing.
The lack of forced entry and the unreachable driver aroused his suspicions. He then filed a complaint at the central police station in Diourbel while conducting his own investigation, which led him back to his employee.
Earning a monthly salary of 75,000 FCFA, the young man explained that he acted to cope with serious financial difficulties. After committing the crime, he resold the two televisions for a total of 40,000 FCFA. Arrested and remanded in custody, he confessed to the crime in court and begged for leniency: “I’m not a bad person. This is the very first time in my life I’ve had any dealings with the justice system.”
Although his employer eventually withdrew without claiming financial compensation, the court sentenced him to two years in prison, including six months of mandatory imprisonment, in accordance with the prosecution's requests, adds the daily newspaper of the Future Media Group.
