On the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, celebrated on June 26, 2026, the Senegalese Customs Administration took part in a major operation to incinerate drugs and hazardous products at the SOCOCIM facilities.

This operation is part of the 39th edition of the National Awareness and Mobilization Week against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, organized under the theme: "The global drug problem: persistent issues, new challenges, innovative responses".

The ceremony brought together several actors involved in the fight against drug trafficking, including Customs, the Central Office for the Repression of Illicit Drug Trafficking (OCRTIS), the Interministerial Committee for the Fight against Drugs (CILD), as well as national and international partners.

The destroyed goods included cocaine, kush, khat, ecstasy, psychotropic substances, and various chemical precursors. Senegalese Customs, for its part, handed over 643 slabs of cocaine to the OCRTIS (Central Office for the Repression of Illicit Drug Trafficking) for incineration. This drug had been seized during a joint operation conducted with the National Gendarmerie on August 4, 2025, in Rufisque.

The authorities stressed that this initiative illustrates the determination of the Defense and Security Forces to strengthen their cooperation to effectively combat illicit trafficking networks, particularly international drug trafficking.

Since the beginning of 2026, Senegalese Customs have already seized nearly a ton of cocaine, in addition to significant quantities of Indian hemp and synthetic drugs, confirming the scale of the phenomenon and the intensification of repression efforts.
