Kédougou : 1,5 kg de cocaïne saisis dans un bus de transport en commun
The fight against international drug trafficking is intensifying in the Kédougou region. Officers from the local Mobile Brigade, on duty at the strategic Kénioto checkpoint, have made a significant seizure of cocaine.
The operation was the result of infiltration and intelligence work that revealed the transport of an illicit cargo on board a public transport bus.
During a routine vehicle check, security forces focused on the backpack of a passenger exhibiting suspicious behavior. A thorough inspection of the bag revealed 68 pellets carefully wrapped in plastic, weighing a total of 1.5 kilograms.
The product tested positive by the OCRTIS
To carry out the initial standard checks, the regional offices of the Central Office for the Repression of Illicit Drug Trafficking (OCRTIS) were called in. The rapid test performed on the substance came back positive for cocaine.
In accordance with legal procedures, a sample of the product was taken and then urgently sent to Dakar for confirmation analyses at the National Police scientific laboratory, the only one authorized to definitively certify the nature of the product.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody and is currently undergoing extensive questioning. Furthermore, the bus he was traveling on has been impounded to allow investigators to conduct a thorough search and ensure that no other illicit goods are concealed inside. The investigation is ongoing to identify those who ordered the operation, the final destination of the merchandise, and any potential regional connections.
