Kidira : A. Diop arrêté pour le vol de 27 kg de viande dans une boucherie
The Kidira territorial gendarmerie brigade has solved a case of nighttime burglary at a local butcher shop. The suspect, 25-year-old A. Diop, who claims to be a mason, is being prosecuted for stealing 27 kg of beef from butcher A. Cissokho. He has been remanded in custody.
According to the investigation, the events took place on the night of October 18-19, 2026, around 2:00 a.m. A. Diop, known by the alias "Thiapato," allegedly went to A. Cissokho's butcher shop. He reportedly broke the lock on the refrigerator where beef intended for sale was stored. He allegedly removed 27 kg of beef, estimated to be worth over 100,000 CFA francs, which he packed in a bag before disappearing on a motorcycle.
At the time of the incident, the suspect was spotted by Ms. D. Sall, who was returning from a dance party. Back home, the young woman confided in her aunt, F. Guèye, who runs a shop near the butcher's.
On the morning of October 19, around 8 a.m., F. Guèye informed the butcher of what had been observed. The butcher immediately filed a complaint with the Kidira gendarmerie against A. Diop, whom he identified as the suspected perpetrator of the theft.
By summons, the local police station invited the suspect and the witness to appear at their offices. When questioned, A. Diop initially denied everything. It was during his transport home that the situation changed. Feeling frustrated at being seen in this position by the neighbors, he confessed. He stated that after the theft, he had hidden the meat in a broken refrigerator in the house across the street from his own. He added that he often went there without the head of the household's knowledge.
The checks confirmed his statements. The police found the meat wrapped in a blue raincoat, with ice cubes.
When questioned again about the reasons for his action, A. Diop maintained that he had stolen the meat to sell it to a restaurant owner based in Diboli, Mali, whom he presents as a potential customer.
Seneweb's source recalls that A. Diop had already been arrested twice for a sheep theft in 2023 and a motorcycle theft in Jakarta in 2024.
At the end of his custody, he was brought before the Bakel district court, which placed him under a detention order.
