Kolda : un mur s’effondre sur un homme de 74 ans endormi
A scare gripped the residents of the Ndiobène district this Friday, September 11, 2026. A precarious structure collapsed in broad daylight, surprising a resident in his sleep and urgently mobilizing the police and rescue forces.
The incident occurred on the victim's family property. Mr. W. SAMBOU, a 74-year-old unemployed man, was resting peacefully in his room when the incident happened. The building, constructed of mud-brick walls supporting a zinc roof, suddenly collapsed.
On the scene, his niece, Ms. D. Diouf, witnessed the initial moments of the incident firsthand. While sitting in the courtyard of the house, a deafening noise shattered the neighborhood's tranquility. Recounting this terrifying scene, she explained:
"I was sitting in the yard when I suddenly heard a loud noise coming from the bedroom. I rushed to check and found my uncle W. trapped under the rubble of the wall."
Alerted to the situation, the Kolda central police station, under the command of Chief Superintendent Ibrahima Diallo, immediately dispatched an intervention team to the scene. The officers carried out the standard procedures, confirming the presence of rubble on the ground and the fragility of the mud-brick structure.
The victim suffered an open fracture to the right leg as well as an injury to the left leg, according to Seneweb sources.
Alerted immediately, firefighters quickly intervened to extricate the 70-year-old man from his critical condition. He was urgently evacuated to the Kolda Regional Hospital to receive intensive care.
The public prosecutor has been formally informed of the unfolding events. A judicial inquiry has been opened by the central police station to determine the exact causes of the collapse.
