« La vie est devenue trop difficile » : sorti de l’hôpital, un commerçant se jette dans un canal
A. Thiam, a 36-year-old shopkeeper who was passing through Bargny, was found dead on August 3rd around 8:00 AM near the TER (regional express train) footbridge. According to information from the investigation reported by Libération, he apparently threw himself into the canal while traveling to Kaolack to visit his family. Near the body, investigators discovered his travel bag containing clothing, medication, and a prescription, the same source reports.
His friend MA Faye, interviewed as part of the investigation, explained that the man in his thirties was going through a difficult period and suffering from severe abdominal pain. These ailments followed a first suicide attempt a few days earlier, during which he ingested caustic soda, commonly known as "khémé," confiding that his life had "become too difficult," the newspaper reports.
Taken to the Youssou Mbargane Diop Hospital in Rufisque for emergency treatment, A. Thiam remained under observation for 48 hours. Upon his release from the hospital, he was entrusted to a relative tasked with looking after him and accompanying him to his parents' home in Kaolack.
It was during this journey, during a stopover in Bargny, that the tragedy occurred. An investigation has been opened by the local police station to clarify the exact circumstances of this death, Libération adds.
