Le fardeau d'une dette de la Tabaski pousse un éleveur au suicide
A gruesome discovery has plunged the village of Méwelle Peul, located in the commune of Yang-Yang (Linguère department), into utter shock. Early Friday morning, June 26, 2026, around 6:00 a.m., a man of approximately 46 years old, identified as Cheikh Al Ousseynou Ba, was found dead, hanging from a tree a short distance from the village. One of his own children made the grim discovery and, in a state of shock, alerted the other family members.
According to a source close to the case, the victim, a livestock farmer, had taken out a loan of four million CFA francs from a local bank to finance his "Tabaski operation." Unfortunately, his business did not yield the expected results during the religious holiday. Completely unable to repay this bank debt, the father of the family spiraled downward before choosing to take his own life.
Near the body, investigators found a note written in Pulaar left by the deceased. It contained these touching words: "I forgive everyone because my time has come. I only ask for prayers after my death, no funeral ceremony."
Members of the Yang-Yang territorial gendarmerie brigade, the head nurse of the local health post, and firefighters immediately went to the scene to conduct the initial investigations. The herder's body was transported to the morgue at the Dahra health center. A judicial inquiry has been opened by law enforcement to determine the exact causes and circumstances of the tragic death of this father of a family.
