Magal of Mbacké Kadior: Serigne Cheikh Thioro Mbacké pleads for the Ministry of Tourism to promote the event

The Mouride community is preparing to commemorate the birth of Serigne Mouhamadou Lamine Bara Mbacké ibn Khadim Rassoul. In this context, a departmental development committee (CDD) meeting was held this Thursday morning in Mbacké Kadior, chaired by the prefect of Kébémer, Ousseynou Mbaye.

In addition to the prefect of Kébémer, the meeting brought together the president of the Magal organizing committee, Serigne Cheikh Thioro Mbacké, spokesperson for the Khalif of Gouy-Mbinde. Numerous department heads, dignitaries, and local stakeholders also participated.

At the end of the meeting, the prefect announced to the press that this preparatory fixed-term contract concerned the Grand Magal of Mbacké Kadior, scheduled for the first or second week of November 2026. All the grievances raised by the organizing committee were reviewed. He then detailed, department by department, the announced measures.

Security: police and firefighters

The prefect first addressed security. The gendarmerie has already taken steps to ensure adequate security coverage during the Magal. Sufficient personnel will be deployed, along with barriers. Parking areas will be set up within the city. According to him, all necessary measures will be taken to guarantee this coverage.

Firefighters will work alongside the gendarmerie to assist those in need. They will mobilize sufficient personnel, ambulances, water tankers, and equipment.

Electricity and telecommunications

Senelec will make its resources available to the organizing committee. It will provide a generator and 150 streetlights, and will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining the high and low voltage lines. Temporary connections will be installed. A 5 km extension is planned and is currently under study.

On the communications side, Sonatel will strengthen the network.

Health: all ambulances in the Darou Mousty district mobilized

In terms of healthcare, the Ministry will provide a supply of medications, as well as sufficient personnel, equipment, and ambulances. All 11 ambulances in the Darou Mousty health district will be mobilized to ensure adequate healthcare coverage during the Magal.

Hygiene, sanitation and water

The hygiene department will disinfect the city three days before the Magal, i.e. by November 3, 2026.

SONAGED will mobilize its team and equipment to clean the city. A permanent team will ensure cleaning throughout the event.

For the water supply, SDR will mobilize 10 tanker trucks, water tanks, a generator and fuel. It will also ensure the proper functioning of the well.

ONAS will be contacted to provide 20 mobile toilets and 5 emptying trucks.

Water and forests, livestock farming, roads

The forestry service will issue permits to ensure an adequate supply of dead wood for cooking during the Magal. The livestock service will deploy a large team to inspect animals before slaughter.

AGEROUTE will be contracted to rehabilitate and resurface several roads: the Sagata-Ndoyene section, the road linking Mbacké Kadior to Darou Mousty towards Touba, and the road leading to Ngaye. The goal is to allow pilgrims to reach the city in good conditions to celebrate the Magal.

The CSA will be consulted, "as usual." Customs will facilitate the movement of goods and people traveling to the Magal. The Mbacké Kadior Town Hall and the Kébémer Departmental Council will be contacted to provide various forms of support to the organizing committee.

The prefect concluded that all services present, both departmental and regional, will mobilize to ensure a good organization of the Magal of Mbacké Kadior, 2026 edition.

The spokesperson for the caliph defends the importance of the Magal

For his part, Serigne Cheikh Thioro Mbacké, president of the organizing committee and spokesperson for the Khalif of Gouy-Mbinde, responded to those who believe there are too many Magals. According to him, even if they are numerous, they deserve to be multiplied, because remembering a man like Cheikh Mouhamadou Lamine Bara, with his virtues and values, and drawing inspiration from him brings immense benefit.

He also made a plea on the cultural front, arguing that the Ministry of Tourism should promote this major event. On the economic front, he highlighted the many goods traded there: bulls, camels, sheep, poultry, oil, and more. According to him, this creates a genuine boost to the local economy. He added that even Europeans create festivals to stimulate their economies and transmit values, concluding that such a day is of paramount importance.
