The local gendarmerie brigade in Tivaouane Peulh conducted two separate operations on August 22nd and 23rd, 2026, resulting in the arrest of two individuals. One was a cattle thief, whose investigation revealed he was none other than the former herder of his victim. The other was a young man caught fleeing with several packets of marijuana.

An anti-aggression patrol stumbles upon a cattle rustling

It all started with multiple complaints from the population of the Apix sector, reporting cart drivers operating in an organized gang towards Keur Massar and Malika, with the aim of robbing citizens on the axis linking the band of casuarina trees, the MKA Paix road and the Mandoumbé roundabout.

In response to these reports, an anti-aggression patrol, supported by checkpoints on this sensitive route, has been set up.

Thus, on the night of August 21-22, 2026, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. , the Tivaouane Peulh local police brigade conducted a security patrol in its area of responsibility. During this operation, the officers spotted three individuals leading a herd of cows from the VDN 3 highway, heading from Mbeubeuss to Apix. Upon seeing the patrol, the three men fled towards the casuarina grove.

After a chase, one member of the group was apprehended, while his two accomplices escaped. When questioned at the scene, the individual initially gave evasive answers.

A thief caught in his own contradictions

When questioned about the origin of the animals, he initially stated that he and his two companions, A. Sow and S. Sow, had collected them in Mbeubeuss and transported them to Keur Ndiaye Lo. He then asserted that the herd belonged to him, specifying that he had lost it without ever reporting it to the relevant authorities.

However, this version ran into a technical detail that tipped the investigation: the man claimed that his animals bore horizontal lines on their left thigh as a distinguishing mark, while the animals found bore very different marks, namely the stamps "AS", an arrow, "T" and "O".

The recovered livestock totaled 17 head of cattle: two calves, one white and the other brown; and 15 females, two brown and 13 white. The suspect also stated that he resides in Noflaye, on the road to Bambilor.

The investigations continued with the involvement of the president of the Tivaouane Peulh herders, A. Sow. Thanks to the WhatsApp group bringing together the herders of Senegal, he was able to identify the true owner of the herd: another A. Sow, a herder based in Malika.

He explained that he had noticed his herd was missing that very morning, which led him to go to the Malika police station to file a report. Later informed that the animals had been found by the Tivaouane Peulh gendarmerie, he went there to be presented with the arrested suspect.

It was at this point that the investigation took a real turn: to his great surprise, the owner formally recognized his former shepherd, 27-year-old Amadou Ka, who lived in Bambilor. He explained that he had dismissed him following previous thefts that had occurred during their time working together.

According to his statements, during the six months that Amadou Ka had worked for him, six cows had been stolen; each disappearance was the subject of a complaint filed by him at the Malika police station, before he finally thanked him.

The confession and the continuation of the proceedings

Re-interviewed on August 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., Amadou Ka finally confessed to all the charges against him, pleading for leniency. The evidence gathered during the investigation being deemed consistent and unequivocal, he was taken into custody for the theft of 17 cattle committed at night as part of a group. A warrant for his arrest was also issued for his two accomplices, A. Sow and S. Sow, who are still at large.

Indian hemp trafficking in Namora: escaping via the rooftops wasn't enough

On August 23, 2026, the same brigade arrested Mr. Konté, known as "Naby Amsa" (22 years old), a worker residing in Tivaouane Peulh, for possession, use, trafficking, offering and transfer of Indian hemp.

Following a tip-off, a raid was carried out on an unfinished building in the Namora district, an area known for drug trafficking, with the support of several brigades and the GEMS (Group for the Study and Management of Drugs). Several young people fled. Naby Amsa tried to escape the gendarmes by climbing onto a terrace before being caught. The search revealed five packets of marijuana, which he denied owning.

At the end of the investigations, the two suspects were presented to prosecutor Cheikh Diakhoumpa, head of the Rufisque prosecutor's office, and placed under a detention order.
