Mariages précoces et forcés : Diomaye Faye salue l’initiative de la Première Dame Fatima Maada Bio
The fight against child, early, and forced marriage has reached a new stage internationally. In Dakar, on Wednesday, October 14, the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, welcomed the initiative led by Fatima Maada Bio, First Lady of Sierra Leone and President of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), to dedicate November 27 to this cause.
During the launch of the "Building Resilience" campaign, the Senegalese Head of State highlighted this resolution, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on September 4th. The new international day aims to maintain momentum against a practice that undermines the rights, education, and future of many girls.
In welcoming this initiative, Bassirou Diomaye Faye stressed the importance of the commitment of First Ladies in defending women and girls, particularly through advocacy for laws designed to better protect them.
November 27th will thus become an annual event to raise awareness and encourage actions aimed at ending child, early, and forced marriage. The challenge now is to translate this international recognition into concrete prevention and protection measures.
