Mbour : la faim justifie les moyens, le pêcheur assomme son père avec une brique
This is the story of a fisherman who hates his father, to the point of sometimes raising his hand to him. The latest episode: Wednesday, September 2nd, around 3 p.m. The first man, W. Diagne, arrives at the family home in the Darou Salam neighborhood of Mbour. He finds the second man, M. Diagne, sitting in the courtyard with his wife. He demands his lunch.
His mother scolds him, reproaching him for his lack of respect towards his family and neighbors. He rushes out onto the veranda and comes back with a bowl of rice, leftovers from the family meal. The head of the household jumps up, grabs the food, and takes his place.
Mr. Diagne probably thought the incident was over. According to the account in L'Observateur, which reported the story in its Thursday edition, W. Diagne had decided to take revenge: the fisherman surprised his father from behind and struck him violently on the head with a cement brick before fleeing. "Under the force of the impact, the old fisherman collapsed at his wife's feet, lost consciousness, and began to bleed out," the newspaper reported. "For her husband's life, the woman called the neighbors for help. They rushed the victim to the hospital where he was admitted to the emergency room."
Mr. Diagne will be discharged from treatment with a 15-day temporary incapacity for work (ITT). "A few days later, while recovering from his injuries," continues L'Observateur, "the victim saw his son enter the house by climbing the perimeter wall. He then went to the central police station in Mbour and filed a complaint against him."
W. Diagne will be arrested. According to the newspaper, he admitted to investigators that he had smashed his head, but specified that he had used a stone and not a brick. He justified his actions by claiming he was hungry.
"This is not the first time W. Diagne has attacked his father," notes L'Observateur. "Already convicted twice by the Mbour High Court for violence against a parent, he has just reoffended. After being held in custody, he was brought before the Mbour prosecutor's office where a warrant for his arrest was issued."
