Mbour : privé d’électricité, le locataire sort la machette et…
D. Guèye, an employee of the National Integrated Waste Management Company (Sonaged), was sentenced by the Mbour Magistrate's Court to one year in prison for assault and battery. L'Observateur, which attended the hearing, reports that the garbage collector, a tenant in the Diamaguène 2 neighborhood of P. Ndoye, had accumulated four months of rent arrears while benefiting from free water and electricity. Faced with his persistent refusal to vacate the premises, the landlord eventually cut off his power.
To recharge his phone, the newspaper added, D. Guèye discreetly entered the couple's bedroom. Surprised by the landlord's wife, he flew into a violent rage and beat her severely.
Alerted by the screams, the owner's son, Mr. Ndoye, intervened to help his mother. But the young man's intervention sparked a new outbreak of violence. The Sonaged employee then grabbed a machete and struck him a violent blow to the back of the neck.
Seriously injured, the young man was rushed to Thierno Mouhamadoul Mansour Barro Hospital in Mbour, where he was prescribed four days of sick leave. The suspect was eventually apprehended thanks to the intervention of neighbors.
In court, D. Guèye initially denied the allegations before eventually admitting to entering the couple's bedroom. He also admitted to regularly receiving his salary, even though he refused to pay his rent.
At the end of the proceedings, the court followed the prosecutor's recommendations. In addition to his prison sentence, the defendant was ordered to pay 51,000 FCFA to the victim to reimburse her medical expenses, concludes the newspaper of the Future Media Group.
