Mbour : soupçonnant sa femme d’adultère, il la frappe, la déshabille et l’étrangle devant leurs enfants
Nd. Ndiaye, a teacher from Malicounda, appeared before the Mbour High Court on charges of domestic violence brought by his first wife, Nd. M. Th. Mbaye. According to L'Observateur, which covered the trial, the events date back to late June, when the couple's relationship had deteriorated after the teacher took a second wife.
A dispute fueled by suspicions of adultery
According to the newspaper, the husband, who suspected his wife of adultery, claims to have seen "the silhouette of a man" leaving their home. He maintains that he saw an individual "dressed in a white djellaba" crossing the courtyard. After insisting on entering, he says he chased the man, whom he thought he had seen leaving the marital bedroom, to the terrace, but did not find him.
Nd. Ndiaye then claims that this man "jumped from the terrace to escape through a house under construction." He then "came back down to demand an explanation from his wife." An altercation ensued. According to L'Observateur, "during the argument, Nd. Ndiaye physically attacked Nd.M.Th. Mbaye. He beat her savagely, stripped her of her clothes until she was naked, in front of their children. Then, he strangled her."
Alerted by the cries, relatives and neighbors intervened. The victim then went to a health facility in Petite-Côte, where she received a medical certificate indicating a six-day period of temporary incapacity for work. She subsequently filed a complaint with the Malicounda gendarmerie brigade.
A child's testimony
During the investigation, one of the couple's children, aged 9, gave testimony supporting his mother's accusations, according to the same source. Nd. Ndiaye, who is appearing in court as a free man, denies the violence charges against him and maintains that he saw a man leave the house via the terrace.
The public prosecutor has requested the application of the law. The case has been adjourned for deliberation and the decision is expected next Tuesday, L'Observateur adds.
