Meubles commandés sur TikTok, jamais livrés : un escroc présumé tombe à Keur Massar
The Keur Massar territorial gendarmerie brigade brought Y. Diop before Prosecutor Saliou Dicko this Friday morning. The man, who presented himself as a construction engineer, must now answer to alleged acts of fraud and breach of trust.
According to details of the investigation reported to Seneweb, the suspect had set up a well-rehearsed scheme on social media.
By creating a TikTok account on which he posed as a carpenter, he regularly posted videos featuring modern furniture in order to lure potential customers.
Lured by the attractive images, several people placed orders and paid deposits to finalize their purchases. The amounts received by the accused ranged from 95,000 to 1,413,000 CFA francs, according to the buyers. However, once the money was collected, the supposed craftsman never delivered the promised furniture.
It was Ms. NM Guéye who finally broke the silence. Realizing she had been duped, she went to the Keur Massar gendarmerie to file a complaint. Summoned by investigators and then interrogated, the suspect was taken into custody.
The announcement of this arrest immediately prompted reactions from other victims. Upon learning of the arrest of the fake carpenter, several people came forward to the police. In total, six people have now filed civil suits in this case, for a total estimated loss of over 2 million CFA francs.
