Migration irrégulière : 12 candidats dont 6 sénégalais interceptés en Gambie
Despite the numerous arrests of would-be irregular migrants made in recent weeks on the Gambian coast, attempts to leave by sea for Spain continue.
On Saturday, October 3, 2026, the Gambia Department of Immigration (GID), through its border patrol unit, conducted a joint operation in the Tanji area. The operation resulted in the interception of twelve (12) individuals who were about to attempt the crossing to Europe.
The group consists of three (3) Gambians, six (6) Senegalese, two (2) Guineans and one (1) national of Guinea-Bissau. All twelve people arrested are men.
Their interception comes amid a context marked by the increase in surveillance and control operations of the Gambian coast, which in recent weeks has become an important transit point for those wishing to leave for the Canary Islands.
Despite the strengthening of security measures, attempts to leave continue to multiply, illustrating the persistence of the phenomenon of irregular migration in the sub-region.
