Migration irrégulière : 4 Sénégalais parmi les 18 migrants interceptés en Gambie
The fight against illegal emigration is intensifying at Gambian borders. After the arrest of 14 migrants in Busumbala by the police's anti-crime unit on August 31, 2026, 18 other would-be emigrants were intercepted the same day in Essau by the Gambia Immigration Department's (GID) Border Patrol Unit.
This group of undocumented migrants consists of nine women and nine men of various nationalities from the sub-region: eight Guineans, four Senegalese, four Nigerians, one Gambian and one Malian.
Following their arrest, the 18 individuals were transferred to the Barra immigration station. There, they are undergoing thorough identity checks and an investigation to determine the networks involved and the details of their migration plan.
