After several months of standoff and more than 27 months of unpaid wages, the 44 striking employees of the Ministry of Mines and Geology have decided to suspend their action plan. Meeting to discuss their social situation, the workers unanimously decided to cancel the sit-in scheduled for September 15 , 2026 , at the Ousmane Tanor Dieng ministerial complex.

In a statement received by Seneweb today, the group explained that this decision follows several discussions between the coordinator of the interministerial collective, Oumar Dramé, and the president of the High Council for Social Dialogue, Mr. Faly Seck. The aim is to allow the president of the HCDS time to continue his efforts with President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye to find a positive resolution to their situation.

The press release noted that all 44 employees, who have accumulated more than 27 months of back pay, have been unemployed since August 12, 2024.

The collective also says it wants to follow the social measures that will be announced by the Prime Minister, Ahmadou Al Amine Mouhamed Lo, during his general policy statement on September 8, 2026. A DPG expected in particular on the reintegration of workers dismissed by the outgoing government.

In the statement, the group also said it took note of the instructions given by the head of government to the Minister of Labour, Mamadou Lamine Dianté, and to the Minister of Mines and Geology, Cheikh Oumar Seck, to settle the matter as soon as possible.

In light of these developments, the group has responded favorably to the call for goodwill and suspended its action. The sit-in therefore remains suspended, pending government announcements and further negotiations.
