Death of Senegalese national Aldo Kara in Spain: Horizon Sans Frontières demands "truth and justice"

Horizon Sans Frontières expressed, in a statement, its "deep indignation and great consternation following the tragic death of Aldo Kara, a Senegalese national from Mbour, fatally shot in Spain in circumstances which remain to be clarified."

“According to initial reports, Aldo Kara was shot while attempting to intervene in an altercation. However, we insist on the need to allow the investigation to accurately establish the facts, the origin of the shot, and the responsibilities,” said Boubacar Sèye.

"But one thing is certain: a human life has been taken and a Senegalese family is now plunged into mourning," the statement added.

Horizon Sans Frontières condemns "in the strongest possible terms all forms of violence against migrants" and calls on the Spanish authorities to "shed full light on this tragedy as soon as possible." The organization demands "a serious, transparent, and impartial investigation to establish responsibility and ensure that justice is served for Aldo Kara."

The organization calls on the Senegalese authorities, "particularly the diplomatic and consular services, to provide full support to the family of the deceased, closely monitor the progress of the investigation and ensure respect for the rights of our compatriot."

“The death of Aldo Kara must not be reduced to a mere news item. Behind every migrant who disappears or is killed, there is a family, children, plans and a human life that deserves protection and dignity,” emphasizes Boubacar Sèye, who, while offering his “deepest condolences to the family of Aldo Kara, to his loved ones, to the Senegalese community in Spain and to the entire Senegalese people,” demands “truth, justice and dignity for Aldo Kara.”
