Nécrologie : Le maire de M'Bagne, Hassan Seck, figure emblématique de la Vallée du Fleuve Sénégal, s'est éteint
A prominent figure in the Senegal River Valley has passed away. Hassan Seck, mayor of the commune of M'Bagne, died this Monday, October 27, 2026, in Brussels, following a long illness.

M'Bagne is a commune and a town in southwestern Mauritania, located in the M'Bagne department (Brakna region), directly bordering Senegal. This strategic location explains the deceased's significant presence along both banks of the Senegal River, particularly through his involvement in the Senegal River Valley Community Resilience and Development Project (PRDC-VFS). Thanks to this program and the partnerships established with several NGOs for the well-being of the population, his municipality benefited from major projects in fish farming, market gardening, poultry farming, and well drilling.
A key player in sub-regional integration
Beyond his municipal roots, Hassan Seck was a key figure in the "Enndam Soubalbe International" organization, a socially oriented structure working for the development and well-being of the inhabitants of the Senegal River Valley, Mali, Guinea, Senegal, Mauritania and Gambia.
An eminent and respected executive, he also held the position of Deputy Director of the Agency for the Development of Fisheries and Inland Fish Farming, while currently serving his second consecutive term as head of the municipality of M'Bagne.
