« Nos entreprises meurent, nos investissements disparaissent…» : L’alerte de Ousmane Sy Ndiaye (Unacois)
Members of the National Union of Traders and Industrialists of Senegal (Unacois), the Association of Traders and Industrialists of Senegal and the Collective of Companies and Actors in Transport and Logistics of Senegalese Trade (Ceatlcs) declare that they can't take it anymore.
On Wednesday, they took the first step in what they call "a vast mobilization operation to face the enormous difficulties and extremely important challenges that weigh on activity" in the trade, industry and transport sectors.
“Our businesses are dying one after another, our investments are disappearing one after another. Every week, we see employee layoffs, simply because Senegalese traders and industrialists can no longer cope with the fierce competition from international operators from Asia and the Middle East,” Ousmane Sy Ndiaye, executive director of Unacois, told Rfm.
For him and his comrades, the situation has become untenable. They are appealing to the government, demanding urgent solutions: "Enough is enough. We can no longer live with this situation. That is why we wanted to join forces, first to appeal to public opinion and then to the government, so that urgent solutions can be found very quickly on this issue."
The three organizations also call for the revival of public-private dialogue, the lethargy of which, in their opinion, is at the root of all the problems they are experiencing: "If the government were sufficiently aware of the risks and difficulties facing its private sector, we believe we would not be in this situation," they say.
These traders and industrialists also want an end to what they call "grossly abusive practices" at the port of Dakar. "Today, the service and billing practices that prevail at the port of Dakar are beyond comprehension," they denounce.
