Nuit de chaos à Mbour : un policier perd son œil gauche, l'agresseur présumé introuvable
During the night of July 16-17, the Oncad neighborhood of Mbour was the scene of a violent altercation. Around 2:00 a.m., the home of a mason, Mr. Ndiaye, was stormed by a group of assailants who, after fleeing, took refuge in a neighboring house. The situation quickly escalated, causing widespread panic, according to L'Observateur.
Witnessing the scene, MS Ndiaye, a young police officer with three years of service, intervened to restore calm and ask the crowd to disperse. It was in the ensuing confusion, the same source continues, that he received a violent punch to his left eye, resulting in a "perforated eyeball." Taken to the hospital in Mbour, the officer was prescribed 30 days of sick leave.
After filing a complaint, the victim saw the investigation focus on the mason's family. Summoned by investigators, the mason identified his nephew as the suspected perpetrator, stating that the nephew had fled to Gambia. However, in court in Mbour, the mason, who was being held in pretrial detention, recanted his initial statements. According to L'Observateur, he denied that any of his family members had struck the police officer, claiming that his nephew had simply gone to Gambia "to look for work."
Following the prosecutor's indictment, which called for the application of the law, the plaintiff is seeking 5 million CFA francs in damages to allow the police officer to continue his medical treatment in Europe, the newspaper adds. The verdict is scheduled for September 29.
