Parcelles Assainies : Chantier bloqué à l’Unité 20, Fatou Kiné Diakhaté tire sur Djamil Sané et Pastef
The power struggle between Djamil Sané, mayor of Parcelles Assainies, and Fatou Kiné Diakhaté, deputy chief of staff to the president, took another turn on October 27. At the Unité 20 school, the planned launch of paving work, part of a school rehabilitation program, was disrupted by heated exchanges between the two sides. Following an initial incident at Unité 16, denounced by Amadou Thiam, president of the Union of School Management Committees of the municipality, a new confrontation erupted this Tuesday at the Unité 20 school.
This program originated from a request by school management committees and parent-teacher associations in the Parcelles Assainies district. At the start of the school year, they contacted Fatou Kiné Diakhaté to request her support in rehabilitating the district's primary schools. The identified needs included toilets, plumbing, doors, windows, and the condition of the walls.
On September 25, a rehabilitation program covering an initial series of ten establishments was launched by the Association Parcelles Assainies en Action (AP2A), chaired by Fatou Kiné Diakhaté.
According to project leaders, the Education and Training Inspectorate (IEF), the sub-prefecture, and the town hall have been informed of the initiative. The mayor also reportedly met with management committees, school principals, and representatives of AP2A to discuss the program.
However, difficulties were reported during the implementation of the works. At Unit 16, interventions attributed to the town hall reportedly disrupted the progress of the construction site.
On Tuesday, the dispute took another turn at the Unit 20 school. Just as Fatou Kiné Diakhaté's team and the workers were about to begin paving work, Mayor Djamil Sané arrived on the scene with several escorts. Heated exchanges ensued. Access to the site was blocked, and the work ultimately did not begin.
The planned paving should facilitate the movement of students with disabilities within the school.
Speaking to the press, the deputy chief of staff to the President of the Republic strongly criticized the Pastef activists, whom she accused of obstructing the initiative. "They didn't come representing the mayor, but rather representing their political interests. It was the Pastef activists who came to prevent us from accessing the school. And yet, it's an association. Nothing prevented us from coming too, representing our political interests, but we didn't," she insisted.
