Petite-Côte: The last heist of the septuagenarian who defrauded gas delivery drivers

A. Dieng, a 70-year-old farmer in Thiès and father of about ten children, had devised a method to deceive gas cylinder delivery drivers. He posed as a merchant to steal their merchandise. L'Observateur recounts his latest scheme, which ended with his arrest.

On September 25th, in Mbour, according to the same source, he contacted Mr. Ka, a cart driver responsible for delivering gas. He led him to believe he wanted to buy 30 gas cylinders to supply two businesses. The delivery driver agreed and went to the address provided.

Once there, 15 gas cylinders are left in front of a shop belonging to MT Dramé. A. Dieng then asks the cart driver to continue with him to the central market for the second part of the delivery.

Upon arrival, the newspaper reports, the septuagenarian found an excuse to leave. He abandoned the delivery driver and took a taxi back to the first shop. His goal: to retrieve the 15 gas cylinders left behind.

His plan, however, did not go as expected. MT Dramé, who did not know the man, confronted him when he saw him carrying away the merchandise. A. Dieng fled. But the merchant managed to photograph the taxi's license plate.

This image allows us to track him down. MT Dramé and the cart driver give chase and catch up with him in Nguékhokh. A. Dieng had already started selling the gas cylinders.

Residents detained him before the police arrived. Taken to the Diamaguène police station, he confessed to the crime and admitted to having previously defrauded other delivery drivers on the Petite-Côte. Following his detention, A. Dieng was remanded in custody and imprisoned in Mbour, the newspaper from the Groupe Futurs Médias reported.
