Pikine : quand un téléphone volé filme un lutteur au saut du lit
A stolen phone ultimately backfired on its owner. According to L'Observateur, professional wrestler M. Kébé, 25, was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Brigade as part of the investigation into the burglary of his neighbor, journalist A. Diouf's, home in Pikine. During the night of October 5-6, the burglars stole five cell phones, a wallet, and several personal documents, including the victim's press card.
The case took an unexpected turn on Wednesday, October 21. Upon turning on his new phone, the journalist discovered videos from one of the stolen devices. Automatic synchronization with his cloud account had allowed recordings to be saved without his knowledge. The footage enabled investigators to identify the wrestler, who lives near the burglarized home. L'Observateur summed up the episode with the phrase: "The cloud betrays the wrestler as soon as he gets out of bed."
Caught in his room with one of the stolen phones, Mr. Kébé denies any involvement in the burglary. He claims, according to the daily newspaper of the Future Media Group, to have bought the device for 25,000 FCFA from a street vendor at the Thiaroye market. This explanation failed to convince investigators: on the prosecutor's orders, he was taken into custody for nighttime burglary with breaking and entering, pending his imminent court appearance.
