Pluviométrie record : jusqu’à 142 mm de pluie mesurés en 24h, Dakar et plusieurs régions sous l'eau
A particularly violent rain and storm episode hit Senegal hard on Sunday, October 4, 2026. Causing major flooding and heavy disruptions, especially in the capital, these exceptional rainfalls resulted in impressive rainfall readings across the entire national territory, according to data from the National Agency for Civil Aviation and Meteorology (ANACIM).
Rufisque and Ranérou lead in cumulative totals
The situation was most critical in Rufisque, a suburb of Dakar, and in Ranérou, with rainfall totals reaching 142 mm in 24 hours. The airport area and the peninsula also experienced massive rainfall, with the Yoff station recording 138 mm and Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD) 76 mm.
The storm was not limited to the Dakar region. The entire country was affected by the severe weather.
Podor : 63 mm
Kaolack : 47 mm
Linguère : 39 mm
Saint -Louis: 33 mm
Kédougou : 22 mm
Thiès : 21.2 mm
ANACIM clarified that these figures remain provisional and subject to upward revision as data collected through the national network is consolidated.
Dakar paralyzed, the lull short-lived
In the capital, these torrential rains immediately clogged the roads and submerged several neighborhoods, complicating traffic and affecting key infrastructure, including health facilities.
After a rainy night and early morning on Monday, October 5th, the intensity of the severe weather temporarily eased. However, this lull will be short-lived. Forecasters at ANACIM are warning of a rapid resumption and a "renewed intensification of rain and thunderstorm activity starting this afternoon across almost the entire country."
South and South-Central: Ziguinchor, Sédhiou, Kolda, Tambacounda, Kédougou, Fatick, Kaolack and Kaffrine are under threat of storms accompanied by heavy rain.
West , Central-West and North: Dakar, Thiès, Diourbel, Louga, as well as Saint-Louis and Dagana remain directly exposed to new rainy passages.
Only the Matam area and the eastern part of Podor have lower probabilities of rain.
A call for maximum caution
Faced with the risk of further flooding in areas already saturated with water, ANACIM is calling on the population to exercise the utmost vigilance.
