Podor : 25% des femmes enceintes en grand danger
More than 25% of women in the Podor department still give birth at home without medical assistance. This alarming situation was revealed by the district's chief medical officer, Dr. Mamoudou Bocoum, during an advocacy event focused on the upcoming launch of a mobile clinic. According to Walf Quotidien, this initiative aims to bring healthcare services closer to the most isolated communities in order to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality.
The newspaper reports that Dr. Bocoum also raised concerns about the low uptake of prenatal consultations and insufficient vaccination coverage. According to him, the remoteness of healthcare facilities is one of the main obstacles to accessing care for women living in rural and isolated areas, hence the need for appropriate solutions.
According to the same source, this mobile clinic, financed with the support of partners such as the Ministry of Health and Social Action, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), will make it possible to offer prenatal consultations and care for newborns closer to the population.
Presented as a pilot experiment, it could be extended to other localities in the department if the expected results are achieved, said Khamsa Diop Bâ, coordinator of reproductive health at the Ministry of Health, as reported by the daily newspaper.
