Guédiawaye Urban Development Project (PUD): Project supporters demand the eviction of illegal occupants

Through a press release, the Collective of Defenders of the PUD (Detailed Urban Planning Plan) of Guédiawaye raises the alarm about what it calls a humanitarian and administrative emergency, alerting public opinion and the highest authorities of the State about the risks of serious clashes following the occupation of the site concerned.

At the heart of the dispute: the presence of a group of market gardeners and livestock farmers accused of illegally occupying the premises and paralyzing the start of major public infrastructure intended for local populations.

According to the PUD Defenders Collective, the current situation is a clear case of "bad faith." They state that although these occupants have no title deeds or legitimate rights to the land, the developer opted for a social approach by paying them substantial financial compensation.

However, despite the release of these public funds, the group of occupants still refuses to leave the premises, attempting, according to the statement, to transform the area into a reception center for evicted people and a site for the clandestine slaughter of cows. "The well-being of an entire population and the economic development of a whole community can no longer be contingent on the threats and whims of a handful of imposters," the statement insists.

The group also accuses these occupants of orchestrating a "cynical strategy of victimhood" with the opportunistic support of certain political actors. It explicitly points the finger at the involvement of members of parliament who, according to them, are sacrificing the public interest on the altar of electoral ambitions and the pursuit of activists.

Arguing that allowing such a situation to continue would create a dangerous legal and social precedent for the entire national territory, the members of the Collective of Defenders of the PUD urge the immediate restoration of the authority of the State.

They are therefore calling for the prompt intervention of territorial, ministerial and security forces authorities to definitively clear the site and proceed with the eviction of the occupants; to secure the perimeter in order to allow the effective start of roadworks and public facilities.
