Renvoi de séances plénières : Une députée de Pastef dégage la responsabilité de l’Assemblée et appelle à poursuivre les travaux
Yesterday, the National Assembly plenary session was postponed after the Executive branch referred the proposed law amending the Petroleum Code to the Constitutional Council. This Wednesday, MPs Abdou Mbow and Thierno Alassane Sall also requested that the current session, which was to examine proposed law no. 39/2026 concerning healthcare in prisons, be suspended, arguing that "this third extraordinary session is pointless."
This prompted a strong reaction from Khady Sarr, Chair of the Committee on Health, Population, Social Affairs and National Solidarity. She stated firmly that "this referral cannot be held against the Institution, which remains under the authority of the President of the Republic and is working on four draft laws within the framework of the third extraordinary session."
While acknowledging the crisis, the Pastef MP maintains that its origins lie elsewhere than within the National Assembly. Citing the Constitution, decisions of the Constitutional Council, and current regulations, Khady Sarr urged her colleagues to reject preliminary questions and continue their work, so as not to further delay the proceedings of this extraordinary session.
