Richard-Toll : le gang des « fausses femmes » démantelé
Initially arrested for possession and collective use of marijuana, O. Diallo, AA Wade, and M. Mall were ultimately betrayed by the analysis of their mobile phones. This allowed investigators from the Richard-Toll police station to uncover a suspected online fraud network, Libération revealed in its Wednesday, July 1st edition.
According to the modus operandi described by the newspaper, the suspects impersonated women in pornographic WhatsApp groups to lure their victims. During fake video calls, they tricked them into enabling screen sharing, which allowed them to fraudulently divert funds from their victims' Wave accounts.
Extracted from the Saint-Louis prison, the three men confessed to the crimes and implicated a fourth suspect, Mr. Fall, who was also arrested. Searches led to the seizure of 1,450,000 CFA francs in cash and seven mobile phones, several of which were allegedly acquired with the proceeds of the fraud.
The four accused were brought before the prosecutor's office in Saint-Louis on Monday, June 29, for conspiracy and online fraud, the same source added.
