Risque de fermeture imminente des établissements privés non conformes : Le gouverneur de Thiès met en garde
“Many private schools in the Thiès region are not complying with current standards, which could lead to their imminent closure.” This warning was issued by Governor Saër Ndao during the regional development committee (CRD) meeting dedicated to the 2026-2027 school year, held on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
The head of the regional executive also referred to the nationwide checks recently carried out by the Ministry of Higher Education, which revealed a number of "dysfunctions in several private schools".
According to him, the relevant local authorities—governors, prefects, and sub-prefects—have been tasked with supporting the formal notices issued to these failing institutions. In some cases, they may even go so far as to order the immediate cessation of their educational activities to guarantee student safety and compliance with applicable regulations.
The governor stressed the need to strengthen oversight and regulation of private schools to protect the reputation of the education system in the region. Authorities are also urging private school managers to comply with legal requirements as quickly as possible, or risk having their schools closed.
