Saint-Louis : 24 candidats à l'émigration irrégulière interpellés par la gendarmerie
The Saint-Louis territorial brigade, supported by the research brigade (BR), apprehended a group of individuals attempting to depart for Spain, gathered in an isolated house in Ndiébène Gandiole. A suspected accomplice was also arrested, while the alleged organizer remains at large.
According to the investigation, 24 people, including one woman, had gathered in an isolated house in Mboubène, in the commune of Ndiébène Gandiole, since October 29, 2026. They were all reportedly from Kafountine in the department of Bignona. Their goal was to board a pirogue bound for Spain.
As part of the fight against irregular migration, the Saint-Louis territorial brigade, supported by the BR (Brigade de Recherches - Research Brigade), acted on intelligence indicating the likely departure of pirogues (traditional fishing boats) from the area. The gendarmes then conducted an operation on November 2, 2026, which led to the discovery of a group of suspected individuals attempting irregular migration. All twenty-four people were apprehended and identified.
When questioned about the circumstances of their trip, they stated that they had paid sums ranging from 450,000 to 500,000 CFA francs to a suspected organizer. This organizer resides in Santhiaba and remains untraceable to this day.
In addition, an individual presented as a suspected accomplice, who was with the group, was arrested for the purposes of the ongoing investigation.
