Saint-Louis : Une confusion de dépouilles plonge une famille dans la consternation
An alleged error at the morgue of the Saint-Louis regional hospital has plunged a family into dismay. The body of Ousmane Marie Ndiaye, found dead by drowning on August 31, 2026, was reportedly mistakenly handed over and buried in Ravette, without his relatives being present.
According to the testimony of Moussa Fall, a retired gendarme and uncle of the deceased, the body of Ousmane Marie Ndiaye and that of Baba Tanga Samake, a Malian national who also died by drowning, were both in the morgue of Saint-Louis.
However, Ousmane Marie Ndiaye's body had been formally identified by a family member at the morgue. But at the time of collection, Ndiaga Diop, a resident of Ravette and employer of Baba Tanga Samake, who had come to collect his employee's remains, allegedly received Ousmane Marie Ndiaye's body in exchange for a payment of 17,500 CFA francs.
Ousmane Marie Ndiaye was therefore transported and buried in Ravette in the absence of his biological family.
Faced with this situation, the Ndiaye family demands full transparency regarding the circumstances of this error and insists that those responsible be held accountable. They are specifically calling on the authorities to address the procedures for identifying and releasing bodies at the morgue and will demand justice if any shortcomings are proven.
Meanwhile, Baba Tanga Samake's body is reportedly still at the morgue in Saint-Louis.
